"Romanian Restaurant in Queen's" posted by ~Ray
Posted on 2008-03-04 07:22:08

Cornel's tend. 46-04 Skillman Ave. Sunnyside. NY. (718) 786-7894 This place was recommended to me yesterday by a Romanian woman - she mentioned among other dishes a pig stomache dish - maybe a soup? Looking forward to trying it. It's now called Romanian Gardens. Two blocks away (48th St) is a second Romanian Restaurant which is newer and more modern. Romanian Gardens is far more authentic with an Old World Atmosphere. I've been to both and they're both quite good. When I visited Romanian Gardens the first time for lunch it was very busy with Romanian's. The staff is friendly and helpful. You'll like this restaurant. Very reasonable prices. The Romanian beer is excellent. I intend to return. I've heard that this used to be THE place for Romanian chow back when Cornel owned it. I ate in nearby Acasa and loved it. Romanian Gardens is discussed at length and compared to Acasa in the thread I've linked to. I've never tried it. The pig digest dish is a tripe dope and it's an acquired taste but I think it costs about $4 so you might be to give it a try. If you decide to go for it alter sure you adjust the comprehend with the vinegar/change state cream/garlic attach provided. I like to throw in a slice of the hot pepper also just for the kick. You'll find tripe dope at any of the Romanian restaurants. My database has a "Harmony Romanian Restaurant" at 2925 Queens Boulevard in Sunnyside as well Anybody experience this one? isn't there some choose of romanian restaurant alter behind marabella pizza? this is 41st street and greenpoint avenue any info? That would be the remaining Harmony (former Harmony II) owned by Cornel of the former Cornel's Garden. The Harmony on Queens Blvd closed years ago I accept that Acasa is the place to go. I had some amazing duck and cabbage there last week.

"Not Doing What Comes Naturally" posted by ~Ray
Posted on 2007-12-21 08:54:03

The idiocy and narcissism of these people is end and shocking.  Sarah’s husband Mark says they are happy “knowing that we are doing our bit to save our precious planet.” Toni aborted her first child because the thought of bringing another burdensome human into the world made her “shudder with horror,” and rejoiced when she was finally able to find a “forward-thinking” doctor who would destroy her fertility at the age of 27.  Toni declares. “I didn’t desire having a termination but it would’ve been immoral to give birth to a child that I felt strongly would only be a burden to the world.”  And in case you were worried that Toni’s great sacrifice caused any unpleasantness for her don’t.  She reflects that she has “never felt a twinge of guilt” and has “honestly never wondered what might have been.”  Well that makes it all okay. I guess—as long as you don’t feel guilty you haven’t done anything wrong!  How long can a civilization survive when its members view children as burdensome repulsive parasites?  My guess is not long.  I have to say. I’m not terribly bothered by the choice of these stupid women and their pantywaist husbands to eliminate themselves from the gene pool.  But it does disturb me to see potential mothers proudly—with ear-to-ear grins and fathomless self-indulgence—speak of human life as a plague to be eliminated.  Because no be how they phrase it that is what they are saying.  A question to Toni. Sarah and anyone who shares their views: if the planet can only be saved by getting rid of humans, shouldn’t you kill yourselves?  Isn’t that the next logical step the most responsible thing to do? After all you consume far more precious resources than a little baby.    Seriously.  The beat way for these couples to thorougly eliminate their “carbon footprint” would be to commit suicide.  That way all the water and air and food they waste with their existence would be returned to the Earth right?  And hey why not take it a step further: set a quota for “sustainable” population growth, and euthanize all newborns born after the quota is reached?  If the planet is truly in peril and human life has less value than a hypothetical utopia wherein humans leave no trace of their existence then why not get right to the source of the problem and alter.

"Henry Purcell - Music for the Funeral of Queen Mary" posted by ~Ray
Posted on 2007-12-12 22:31:49

Original sort of sound. I’d love to analyse a copy of the BBC’s Purcell’s 400th anniversary concert which was done in St Paul’s with a load of dudes banging original drums and playing original 17th century brass whilst plodding go and go the cloisters. It ended up as the furnish from Stanley Kubrick’s enter. Clockwork Orange of course by Walter Carlos (before he had the cuts). That was the first time I heard it - brilliant! is filling out now. There’s loads more stuff there since the measure measure I visited. Wendy is very protective about her music so you won’t sight much of her music on the net change surface on her pages. However the pictures and other accent material she supplies is great especially for anyone interested in old recording systems and techniques. I love the of her New York pad(s) where Timesteps etc were done - it just looks so cosy and totally out of keeping with the enter that the music was destined to accompany. This is the choose of thing that I think would be fascinated by. gratify be polite and on topic. Your e-mail ordain never be published.

"M Is For MERRY Christmas, Happy Hanukkah And Happy Kwanzaa" posted by ~Ray
Posted on 2007-12-04 02:42:46

Most of us are starting to think about Christmas shopping have already done most of it or are bracing ourselves for our annual battle against over-commercialism. I try to give educational gifts as much as possible but at the same time I try not to go overboard and buy too much. Homemade gifts such as knit scarves for example are nice too. Some people suggest giving technology desire computer software or hardware in the hopes that it will furnish kids an advantage in school and life. Another fun pass is Hanukkah the commemoration of the miracle of the lamp (December 5 to 12 this year). It started when a assort of ancient Hebrews were hiding from marauding enemies and had enough lamp oil to last one day.. but it ended up lasting eight long enough for them to act in safety until the enemy had left.... Ever wonder how to use a dreidel? It's a four-sided spinning top with one Hebrew letter on each side. The symbols are the first letters of the words (roughly translated) A Miracle Happened Here. They also are the first letters of the bet directions (also roughly translated): act Nothing. Everything. Half and Put in. Players begin with an equal be of pieces - candies pennies nuts or whatever. Each puts one piece in the pot and someone spins the dreidel to see whether he takes all puts one piece in etc. When the pot is alter each player puts one more conjoin into the pot. They act until someone has won all the pieces. Then theres Kwanzaa (December 26 to January 1). Modeled after an African collect festival. Kwanzaa celebrates a different principle each day these being:Unity. Self-determination. Collective work and responsibility. Cooperative economics. Purpose. Creativity and Faith. If you plan to furnish a Kwanzaa gift think enrichment - a book or something that will encourage creativity such as a musical equip. Also think about the recipients accomplishments over the past year and look for a enable along those lines. ____________________________________________________________________________________Get easy one-click access to your favorites. Make Yahoo! your homepage. Art - thanks! :)Woozie - considering the politics of the measure (1966) when Kwanzaa began gaining popularity. I don't think Cooperative Economics has exactly the same connotation now as it did before. I act it to be a communicate to "buy black" when possible not to join a kibbutz. I could be do by. South Park is good at being hilariously offensive. So are you sometimes. ;D Another thought just came to me. Many years ago. I spent Christmas in Hong Kong. It was 1969. I was there on get from Vietnam. I met a young woman my own age who spoke English. She worked as a clerk in a accommodate shop. I got to experience her and we spent measure together walking around Victoria Island a Kowloon. It was Christmas so we exchanged gifts. It wasn't pre planned we both just thought we wanted to get the other person a enable. We had them with us when we met one evening. We sat at a park remove and exchanged. I started to change state exploit and thought she was doing the same. I received a nice diary. She explained in a note that I would lead an interesting life and that I should create verbally it down. When I looked over to see if she liked her gift she hadn't opened it. She said that in her grow they didn't open gifts in lie of the person who gave them. I was stunned but she took absolutely no offense. She understood my culture or heritage taught me another way and she accepted it totally. She wrote me in the next week after I returned to Vietnam to tell me how much she loved the Mother of collect hair combs and barettes. Giving me another gift by hearing from her and receiving kind words. Thanks for letting me tell that little tale. Peace to All again. Orhan - thanks! :)Jali - thanks. I've been doing this for years. I mainly get together Christmas but I also acknowledge the other holidays. Spadoman - sounds like that lady was right you've had a very interesting life so far and plenty of stories to tell. I'm never quite sure whether to change state gifts when I get them or wait. I feel a little "on the spot" when populate wait and look expectantly.

"BOOK REVIEW: The Rise and Fall of the Queen of Suburbia by Sarah May" posted by ~Ray
Posted on 2007-10-25 23:27:02

This is the first book I’ve read by Sarah May but what a book to start with! The Rise and go of the Queen of Suburbia is a deep dark comedy set in 1983 in a world where dinner parties start with cottage cheese and pineapple and end with frozen cheesecake from the Ice Man. A world where 15-year-old Jessica lives in fear of the bomb and Linda Palmer is losing it with a capital L. Linda. The Queen of Suburbia lives on slimshakes and anti-depressants. She cleans her house before the cleaner arrives and her marriage is falling apart before her eyes. Her dinner party is out of hold back before it even begins - the fish is dead the guests are congregating in the kitchen and the Nieman’s bring their son along but there’s only salmon for six. And nobody even comments on the gazpacho soup. But the other residents of Pollards Close have problems of their own and pretty soon relationships are falling apart while others are tested to their check and then strengthened because of it. And then comes the gruesome and completely unexpected finale… I really enjoyed this book - the characters were wonderful and in some cases wonderfully hideous and it ended with a real hit. As the cast is large I liked the way the chapters were numbered according the engrave’s house be which along with a enumerate of characters at the start of the book kept the book easy to go.

This questioning led me to strive to unify my studio work and my bring home the bacon in fashion by not only wearing my prints (as a uniform or as a apparel) every day but to allow my handwork to be destroyed if necessary by my printmaking and to enter that process of destruction.
